Pre-Workout Smoothie Bowl
Thick, cold, bright pink, and the perfect pre-workout fuel.
I make this on mornings when I've got a hard session ahead because of the amazing ingredients and nutrients packed inside.
The beetroot is the star here. It's naturally rich in nitrates, which is why it turns up so often in pre-workout research around blood flow and endurance. Berries bring antioxidants, banana brings quick energy and potassium, and ginger is warming and anti-inflammatory. Then you add your protein and creatine, and you've got everything you need in one bowl.
No açaí, no queue, no ££ spend. Just your blender.
Serves: 1
Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients
1 beetroot, pre-cooked*
¾ cup frozen berries (I use blueberries and raspberries)
½ frozen banana
1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
1 serving vanilla protein powder *
5g creatine*
About ½ cup plant milk
To top
More fresh berries
Granola
Nut butter
Method
Add the beetroot, frozen berries, frozen banana, and grated ginger to a high-speed blender.
Add the protein powder and creatine.
Pour in a splash of plant milk — start with less than you think you need. Blend, stopping to scrape down the sides, and add more milk only if the blender is struggling.
Spoon into a bowl and top with berries, granola, and nut butter.

*A few notes
Thickness: The less liquid you use, the thicker and more spoonable your bowl. If it turns out runny, add a few more frozen berries and blend again.
Timing: I eat this around 60 to 90 minutes before training, which gives it time to settle.
Supplements: I use Form Nutrition’s vanilla protein and creatine. If you'd like to try them, you can use my link here for a discount.
On beetroot: Precooked vacuum-packed beetroot works perfectly and saves you the mess. Just make sure it's the plain kind, not pickled.
